Richer Speaking – my first book

I’m very excited to announce that I have written and published my very first ebook:

Richer Speaking cover
Cover designed by Luke Meddings at the round

Here’s the blurb:

Are you tired of your students running out of things to say? This book will show you 12 different ways to adapt a wide range of speaking activities to get more out of them in the classroom, divided into four categories:
– Preparing to speak
– Adding repetition
– Extending speech
– Having a reason to listen
There is a full index showing you what kind of activities the techniques work particularly well with, as well as worked examples of each technique in action. All of them are ready to take into the classroom with the minimum of preparation.

Richer Speaking is available to purchase at Smashwords and Amazon [affiliate links] and costs less than 1USD. It’s part of the round minis series, all of which you can spot on their titles page by looking for similar covers to mine, and all available at the same bargain price.

I could never have done this without the help and encouragement of Lindsay Clandfield and Luke Meddings at the round and editor Karen White, as well as the people who helped me come up with some of the ideas included in the book. Thank you so much!

I hope you find Richer Speaking useful, and I would of course appreciate any and all feedback which you have.

Enjoy!

Reviews

I’ll try to collect any reviews that I see here. Thanks to everyone who has said such nice things about the book!

  1. Very exciting and I’m looking forward to reading it. I know Karen is a great editor and ideal for this topic, so it’s all good and I wish it lots of success. Will pop a review on my blog with the links.

  2. Very many congrats, Sandy!!
I’m an English teacher from Mexico City, and got to know you by your WordPress blog. I’ve just past my Delta 1 Module and your posts on the Delta course indeed were of help.
I actually just bought your book from Amazon. I’m very into ELT ebooks and only wish there were more popular titles than there are now. You’ll always see me with my Kindle in my hands. Ha, ha.
The Round and its founders are role models for me.
I hope this just is the beginning of a very promising writing career of yours. Congratulations once again!!!

  3. Hi Sandy, I read your ebook yesterday morning and loved it. So many practical and versatile ideas, thank you! I especially loved the listening bingo and tried it immediately in my 1-2-1 classes ( twice with young learners and then again with an adult student). It was brilliant and added some new flavour to the activities I already had planned. I am looking forward to using some other techniques you described. Congratulations on your wonderful debut!

    1. Thank you very much! It’s good to get such a positive review. If you’d like to, it would be great if you could add it to Amazon or Smashwords (or both!) to encourage other people to buy the book, and please do spread the word. I’m very glad you found it useful 🙂

  4. Hi, I’d like to get a copy of Richer Speaking, but I’m aiming for a pdf format as I don’t have a Kindle (and won’t get one any time soon). Both Smashwords and Amazon appear to offer a version for e-readers. Am I doing something wrong? All the best!

    1. Hi Dora,
Great to hear that you’re interested in buying the book, and thank you for taking the time to find out how to get it when it didn’t work for you originally! Once you purchase the book on Smashwords, it goes onto your Smashwords bookshelf and you can select any format you like to download it in. The 20% samples of it are available in a more limited range of formats, but the full book is available in all formats, including pdf.
Let me know if that doesn’t work, and I’d also be interested to hear what you think of the book.
      Thank you!
      Sandy
